With fall around the corner, it’s time to start thinking sweet potatoes — and North Carolina grows 60 percent of the nation’s crop.
Sweet potatoes have been very sweet for North Carolina. Former tobacco farmers have made the crop the nation’s largest by far.
The North Carolina Sweet Potato Commission represents more than 400 growers along with packers, processors and associated industries — we caught up with that organization’s Kelly McIver, and sweet potato pro Hunter Gibbs for this segment, which also aired on our broadcast partner the RFD-TV Network. (One note: Gibbs is no longer with Nash Produce, but he represented the company for many years and still knows his sweet taters!)
