Florida Peaches Coming Into Their Own As Deal Matures


Summertime is known for sweet Southern peaches, but research and farm innovation has pushed that season back further every year.

The Florida peach industry is just about a decade old. Early season varieties out of the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences now have Florida in the market in what was once a six-week gap between the end of the Chilean import season and the start of the Georgia and South Carolina crop.

We stopped by Florida Classic Growers in Dundee, FL — one of the early adopters of the Florida peach program — for an update on how the deal has grown up and how this season is coming along.
