SPW On RFD-TV: Finding The White House Christmas Tree

Yes it seems early to be hunting for a Christmas tree — but this one’s special. It has to be the perfect size, the perfect shape, the perfect color… because it’s heading to The White House where it will be the official national tree, center of attention in the famed Blue Room.

We joined a team from the White House in Newland, NC at Larry Smith’s Mountain Top Fraser Fir farm for the selection.

Every year, Christmas tree producing states hold a competition to vie to provide the official White House Tree. This year — for the 13th time — North Carolina won, and Smith is their representative.

We’ll be back in Newland for the harvest in mid-November, then we’ll ride along to the White House for delivery to the First Lady and the public lighting ceremony.

We’ll be pulling it all together in a special holiday program to be broadcast over the holidays on the RFD-TV Network as an SPW/RFD co-production.

We’ll also have progress reports along the way here and on RFD-TV’s Rural Evening News and Market Day Report, where this piece first aired.
