There has been trade along the Savannah River as long as there have been people along the Savannah River.

The founding of the city, the Port and the state of Georgia are all tied together and date back to 1732.

Agriculture — like the Peruvian onion import deal Vidalia onion growers have put together over the last 20 years — has always been at the center of the Port’s success, driving it into the Top 4 in the United States.

And, as we found out in a recent visit, agriculture will always be key to the Port’s success. Here’s our look at the past, present and future of Port of Savannah, as originally broadcast on RFD-TV’s Rural Evening News.
