Georgia growers face the same problems as other farmers — labor, weather, foreign competition. But The Peach State also enjoys opportunities some others don’t.

In fact, it probably shouldn’t be called The Peach State at all, since Georgia leads or is near the top annually in production of blueberries, peanuts and pecans.

SPW caught up with Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Gary Black at the Southeast Regional Fruit and Vegetable Growers show in Savannah earlier this month for a frank conversation about what’s ahead for Georgia — and why you could make the case that the state is the center of Southeast agriculture.
